Oh! What a Lovely War

Youth Exchange

Gonio, Sakartvelo

Overview

The main goal of the project is to make sure that NGOs and youngsters are aware of the ongoing situation of IDPs and the public attitude against IDPs in the region. Through this project, they became aware that they can be a part of the change in the lives of the IDPs. The main goal of the project was achieving social and worldwide awareness about the situation of IDPs in the Caucasia region at the moment. It was expected that with the youth exchange the importance of the topic will be understood and solidarity will be promoted by youngsters from different cultures.

The objectives to reach the goal aforementioned are:

- Exchange good practices of IDPs inclusion

- Raising social awareness about the situation of IDPs in the region

- Establishing solidarity and full integration of IDPs with locals

- Removing barriers linked to discrimination

- Intercultural awareness

The project greatly impacted project participants as amongst other things, they learned more information about IDP life and their struggles, they exchanged and share their experiences; learned about the IDP communities first-hand; learned how to organize social activities with and for migrants, as well as how to create long-term plans for IDP inclusion and disseminate project results to the public.

Likewise, the project helped all the participating organizations grow internationally and reach their objectives of youth development. The general public was also impacted, as participants shared the knowledge gained throughout the project with their own communities via awareness campaigns and non-formal workshops.

Dissemination of results was also facilitated through videos and success stories created by project participants. The objective was to raise public awareness about the potential of displaced people and the associated social, economic, and cultural benefits. Over time, it is presumed that more organizations will implement displaced people into their work with youth. This would allow children to grow up in a diverse environment, thereby increasing their tolerance.
